ABOUT OUR FARM

Ann and Mike Lanigan and Bill Orosz started Simpler Thyme in 2000 with a desire to grow organic produce. Simpler Thyme is a non-certified organic farm growing over 100 varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs. We have a 50 acre property just North of Hamilton, which includes 8 acres of vegetables and herbs, 10 acres of fruit trees, nut trees, and berries, and 25 acres of forest where we harvest wild edibles (wild leeks, mushrooms, etc.), and tap the maple trees for syrup.  We also sell eggs when available.

With our commitment to natural and sustainable practices, Simpler Thyme has minimal tillage and soil compression, and uses crop rotation, mulching, composting, green manure, Hugelkultur and permaculture techniques. An important part of our focus is to help create an ecosystem that allows for diversity and flourishing of many species, including birds, butterflies, bees, snakes, frogs, and more. We also collect waste produce from local organic and natural businesses to feed our chickens and ducks and to create compost for our fields.

A LOOK AT A SEASON ON THE FARM

We start with maple syrup production in February/March, all done the old fashioned way- the sap is collected in buckets and we boil it down using a wood fired, homemade evaporator.  In March we start seeding in the greenhouse, and then things accelerate from there to transplanting, weeding and planting in the garden.  Once we plant in the field in May, weeding and harvesting make up a big part of our daily tasks until the end of the season.

We have an onsite market from May until November.  We participate in the Hamilton Farm Crawl.
